This March, raise a toast to the women who’ve changed the world—one idea, one step, or one act of courage at a time. Women’s History Month is here, and Northville is ready to celebrate in style!
Why March Matters: A Brief History
Women’s History Month didn’t just pop up out of nowhere. It began as Women’s History Week in 1978 in Santa Rosa, California, coinciding with International Women’s Day on March 8. The idea caught on like wildfire, and by 1987, Congress officially designated March as Women’s History Month. Since then, every president has issued annual proclamations to honor the month, with themes that highlight women’s contributions across generations.
This year’s theme—"Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations"—is a call to action for all of us to reflect on how women have shaped our communities and continue to pave the way for future generations.
